6 Tips to Keep Your Ecommerce Site Fresh

This guy is right on with so many points. I hope you enjoy.

Summary of his points:
1.) Updated design - make sure the design of your web page is fashionable.
2.) Simplicity
3.) Explain yourself; don't be afraid to communicate, don't fail to communicate with your audience
4.) Be available - transparency is big in today's marketplace. Be available through communication channels like email, telephone, physical address, etc.
5.) Tell the benefits of what you do. You don't have beat them over the head, but you should know what the benefits of buying/working with you are and be able to express them. Then do so.
6.) Use search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. Consider the ways that buyers will find you.

If you have an ecommerce site I'd love to hear what your thoughts are about making the most of your efforts.

Internet Marketing Research with Google, eBay and Amazon

Found this page today: internet marketing research... . So, it looks sorta like a -- scratch that - it totally is a SEO ploy to get traffic to the site using keywords.

In internet marketing you see this sort of attempt to trick the system all the time. Internet marketing services are everywhere on the globe. They set up an account, use a mega-dose of keywords and provide no serious content. It is sort of a sad deal, but it must have something to it, because so many sites out there seem to be doing it.

I'm going try to update more regularly on search engine optimization (SEO) techniques in the future. Strategies for such are recoverable at:

Reebok Challenge Moves a Crowd

The plan was to have viewers seek to find the player wearing a uniform without the classic Reebok logo. Reebok Hockey's marketing plan was a success, maybe too much so.

Google Trends shows that during the day the number of online seekers skyrocketed. The problem is that the website couldn't hold the amount of traffic.

Way to go marketing team, that's sticking it too 'em!

E-commerce Trends 2008-2009

E-commerce Guide posted an article recently about trends in 2009. The five major trends as E-Com. tells is are
  1. Trying to Cash in on Social Sites
  2. eBay Undergoes Huge Changes
  3. Shipping News
  4. Customer Reviews and Video Ads/Marketing
  5. International Sale on Tap
Of the sections each one seems interesting and noteworthy. The use of social sites has exploded in 2008 and each of the trends from the past year will influence and reflect what comes about in '09.

eBay is so often the talk when it comes to online marketplaces aka sales channels or auction sites. Most of the talk this past year has been about the fee and feedback changes that the global auction house made. Forcasters claim the Amazonification of eBay will have huge implications for online sellers and resellers. While e-retail appears to be growing, small businesses and recreational sellers - that once used eBay - will likely (1) hang on till the end, (2) find a new home, or (3) take up another venture.

Shipping doesn't strike me as a hot such a topic. The question of whether to offer free shipping hasn't ever been available to me. I can't see folding that into the item cost, and I don't make enough to recover without charging something for shipping.

I found this at netSpray's delicious page under industry information.

Taxes for Online Sellers

In this life nothing is certain except death and taxes. ~ Benjamin Franklin

While it may be fun for some to joke about next year's tax season officially begins January 1, 2009. So, before you decide to put it on the back burner, I want to entice you to consider filing early and smart this year.

Wall Stats proudly has this interactive poster to tell you where your tax money goes. On a more serious level the IRS have a page devoted to Online Auction Sellers to help them/us to understand how to properly file our taxes.

The Internal Revenue Service aka IRS has a few things to share with you if...
  • You have an online garage sale
  • You start a home-based online auction selling business
  • Your online auction sales are a trade or business
  • You sell appreciated assets at an online auction
  • You sell depreciated business assets
Now, as to what all of that means, you'll probably need to spend your entire Sunday afternoon between noon and nine to really get your mind wrapped around it. But, whether you decide to review the information or not, the pay off is potentially awaiting you.

For instance, if you fall into one of the above categories, don't fret. The work of filing year-end taxes doesn't come without its potential sweet points. There are tax deductions that small business owners might not know they are entitled to.

At the IRS'sOnline Auction Sellers page you may find practical information to help you successfully use the system. Without cheating or being beat, you can play by the rules and come out on top.

Make sure that you are up to date as an online seller in doing your part to admit and claim your taxes.
